In partnership with

Last weekend, we were running errands to catch up on life. We were at our rope's end and had the whole family with us after multiple stops. But as we pulled out of the grocery store, we all noticed a hot air balloon was landing nearby.

Immediately, I turned into Helen Hunt and Jason into Bill Paxton. And instead of storm chasers, we were now balloon chasers - with some very excited passengers in the backseat at that. It's worth noting that this was not our first chase. This has become a bit of a thing that we do.

Anyways, this particular day, we pulled into a parking lot and saw the balloon within reach. However, we'd have to cross some properties, and there wasn't an obvious easy way to get there. We decided to try anyway.

“Kids! Get your shoes on! We got to go!” we yelled as the balloon was touching down and starting to deflate. As we got within 10 to 15 feet of the balloon, we noticed that we weren't the only balloon chasers in Bozeman. Actually, there was about a dozen families right there.

The man that was standing inside the balloon (the captain?, pilot?) looked around, made a gesture to his teammates, and then said, “Kids, get in - I’ll take you up!"

Jason and I looked at each other in disbelief, and by the time we looked back down, our son Jack was running up to the balloon. They only went about 10 feet up, but that afternoon our son joined a small amount of people who have actually ridden in a hot air balloon.

You've all heard that "opportunity begets opportunity." And being in the right place at the right time is everything. And while I believe this is true, I believe more firmly that the key is extreme curiosity and a little bit of craziness.

We could have easily said, “Everyone is tired, we have frozen food in the backseat, let's go home." But instead, our 6-year-old got a memory of a lifetime.

So, go be a little crazy and even more curious.

Also, if you’re anything like me, staying hydrated and making sure you get your greens is a huge challenge. Honestly, without Jason, I'd be in rough shape. Jason has been making a smoothie for our family every day for the past six years, and AG1 is a top ingredient. It puts me at ease because I know our kids are getting essential vitamins first thing in the morning (me too for that matter) and as a mom, and someone who is trying to stay health conscious - that is a great way to start the day.
